From Galatas, after an hour’s walk, one reaches an area with tall trees and water, on the western slope of Varassova. Above, there are the remains of the monastery of Agios Petros and Pavlos, which is now largely in ruins.
The remains of both a one-roomed aisled church with a three-sided apse and the monastery’s precinct wall are preserved on site. The church appears to have been originally timber-roofed, built with roughly worked stones; in its construction it imitates the brick cloisonné style of building. It dates to the Late Byzantine period, most probably to the end of the 13th century.
